Year 6 B - Mrs Taylor 2024 - 2025
Welcome to Year 6
Our names are Mrs Taylor and Miss Taylor. Learning in Year 6 is supported by Mrs Jones and Mrs Oldham.
During the Autumn term, we will be looking at a range of topics in our class.
In Maths, we are looking at place value and the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
During literacy, we are basing our writing on our class book. We will use this as inspiration to write a piece of fiction and information writing. It will also be the basis of our reading lessons.
In the afternoons, we will look at a wide variety of topics, such as light in science, where our things come from in geography and Hindusim in RE.
Art
Children receive weekly art sessions led by Mrs Walsh.
PE
Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please make sure that your child has a named kit, which includes black pumps or trainers, black shorts and either a green or white t-shirt. Long hair needs to be tied back. All earrings need to be removed before school or the lesson for PE sessions. Where ears have recently been pierced, it is essential that children have their own plasters from home to cover their earrings. This needs to be done either at home or by the child themselves. This is in line with the school policy.
On Tuesdays we will have a swimming slot at Crewe Life Style Centre. Please make sure that your child brings a swimming costume/shorts and a towel.
Attendance
Excellent attendance is vital for helping your child to achieve their full potential. Please ensure your child is in school promptly at 8.40 am.
School finishes at 3.15 pm and children continue to be collected from classrooms at this time.
Home learning
Spellings will be given out every Tuesday to be practiced at home for a spelling test on Friday. Parents are encouraged to read with their children every day to support progress in reading and to help nurture a love for reading.
There will be weekly TT Rockstar battles against the other Year 6 class, please ensure your child takes part as times tables are a vital part of your child’s education.
SATs
This is a very important year for your children with the SATs tests occurring in May 2025. Please ensure your child attends school. Booster clubs are likely to begin after Christmas - more details on the SATs process will be communicated to you in due course.
