Year 1 B - Miss Farrington 2024 - 2025

Welcome to Year 1

Miss Williams and Miss Farrington are the Year 1 class teachers.

Our morning sessions consist of Maths and Literacy (Read, Write, Inc. and handwriting practice). In the afternoon, we teach the national curriculum foundation subjects through topic sessions. This includes history, geography, art and science. In addition, children receive PSHE, RE, and Music sessions during afternoon learning times. Throughout the year children explore three Design and Technology projects.

What does your child need to bring to school every day?

Please ensure that your child has a named water bottle in school every day so that they can access a drink throughout the school day.

Your child will need to bring their book bag every day. This will allow them to carry their Read, Write Inc book and a library book to and from school. Children will access the library with their class every Tuesday.

Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. The school does not have a supply of spare clothes for children so it is essential that they are appropriately dressed e.g. a waterproof coat with a hood for wet weather.

PE

Our PE days are Mondays and Tuesdays.  Please make sure that your child has a named kit, which includes black pumps or trainers, black shorts and either a green or white t-shirt. Long hair needs to be tied back.

All earrings need to be removed before school on PE days. Where ears have recently been pierced, it is essential that children have their own plasters from home to cover their earrings. This needs to be done either at home or by the child themselves. This is in line with the school policy.

Attendance

Excellent attendance is vital for your child to achieve their upmost potential. The classroom door opens at 8:40am for morning registration. There will be a member of the Year 1 team waiting at the classroom door to welcome your child. If you have a message for your child's class teacher, please email the year group address at [email protected] unless it is urgent.

It is important that children arrive on time for school every day. This helps them to settle into the school day quickly and calmly. This has a positive impact on their ability to engage in their learning.

School finishes at 3.15 and children need to be collected from classrooms at this time. Only adults on the collection consent list will be able to collect your child unless you have notified the class teacher.

Read Write Inc

Your child will bring home a RWI book and an additional Book bag book each Thursday to share with you at home. Please support them by listening to them read and asking simple questions about what they have read. They might also enjoy teaching you the sounds and words at the front of the story books. Please encourage your child to read this book regularly so that they become confident with the text. These books need to be returned to school each Monday.

There will be a charge of £2 for each lost or damaged book.
