We are an active School!, by Mrs Walsh

Date: 18th Jul 2022 @ 4:11pm

At Wistaston Academy, we LOVE being active! Take a look at our facilities for active learning and how we embed active learning throughout the school. Being active makes us feel alive! It means school is fun and makes us want to go to school. Our year 6s share their thoughts and learning about the importance of fostering a healthy, active lifestyle: we believe that a healthy body promotes a healthy and happy mind! At Team Wistaston Academy we believe active learning is something that should include everyone!

Year 4 Electricity workshop, by Miss Williams

Date: 30th Jun 2022 @ 7:50pm

On Monday 9th May, we welcomed Ruth to school who completed an electricity workshop. We started the session looking over what we already knew. We had a go with circuit boards creating simple circuits. After this we looked at a variable resistor, predicting whether length or thickness of a wire would affect the brightness of a bulb.  We were introduced to new vocabulary of conductors and insulators, we found out that graphite in our pencil was a poor conductor because the light bulb was dim when connected

Year 4 Eid celebrations, by Miss Williams

Date: 30th Jun 2022 @ 7:49pm

We have been very lucky in year 4 to welcome visitors into our year group. On Friday 6th May, we welcomed our Muslim community to celebrate Eid. They brought traditional dishes that they normally eat during Eid (breaking of the fast). All of year 4 would like to thank you for spending your time making such wonderful dishes for us to enjoy.

Year 4 Sherbet experiment, by Miss Williams

Date: 30th Jun 2022 @ 7:48pm

This week in year 4, we completed a sherbet experiment in Science. We loved being able to choose different measurement combinations to create the best sherbet. We decided that although it was really fun, in order to work scientifically we would need to measure the weight of each component not estimate. We then conducted a survey in class to find everyone’s favourite. Then we collected the data to create a chart to show the results. Our favourite sherbet recipe included 9 parts icing sugar, 2 parts citric acid and 2 parts bicarbonate. Maybe you could make your own!

Year 4 Pens Down Day, by Miss Williams

Date: 5th Jan 2022 @ 5:28pm

For Pens down day today, we were introduced to our new book of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. Firstly, we discussed what makes a good chocolate bar and then using the laptops we created our own chocolate bar wrapper on Publisher. Then we played supermarket sweep, buying confectionary using our own  ‘credit card’ that had a limit of £10. In the afternoon, we were introduced to our new science topic of states of matter and made our own chocolate.

Maths week, by Miss Williams

Date: 10th Nov 2021 @ 12:57pm

Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed maths week this week. We have played on TT rockstars and  played a game with our partner linked to our Literacy book of Voices in the Park.

We also used the book ‘How many jelly beans?’ to help us collect and interpret data. We linked this to our science classification skills and sorted them into colours. We then used tally charts to organise our data and then using purple mash we created a bar chart to present the data. Using interpretation questions we found out more about the information we gathered. We had so much sharing our work to the purple mash display and making QR codes.

Year 4 History Trip, by Miss Williams

Date: 2nd Nov 2021 @ 5:28pm

Today, we visited Chester as part of our Pens down History learning on the Romans. We took part in a soldier patrol, learning commands and how to chant in Latin for our marching! We were armed with battle shields and we were under strict instruction of an experienced legionary, discovering what it took to become part of the greatest fighting forces the world has ever known.  We learned how the soldiers would attack and defend in battle and how they were such an effective army. We also explored the Roman Museum, starting out in the hull of a war ship, entering a Roman Town replica and learning all about how the Romans lived in Britain. We were also able to look at the levels of the ground in Chester and link this to our knowledge of archaeologists from last half term. When we were coming back, Harly announced that the trip was “Ten million out of ten million.” And we agree too!

Year 4 We're all wonders, by Miss Williams

Date: 21st Oct 2021 @ 1:29pm

Last week in guided reading, we took part in a tableaux and thought tapping. Using the storyline of our book, we had two children be Auggie, who the story states is 'different'. The rest of the class, were split into bystanders, supporters (friends) and people who were saying mean things. We were using our pupil voice to stand up for Auggie showing compassion and mutual respect.
