We are an active School!, by Mrs Walsh

Date: 18th Jul 2022 @ 4:11pm

At Wistaston Academy, we LOVE being active! Take a look at our facilities for active learning and how we embed active learning throughout the school. Being active makes us feel alive! It means school is fun and makes us want to go to school. Our year 6s share their thoughts and learning about the importance of fostering a healthy, active lifestyle: we believe that a healthy body promotes a healthy and happy mind! At Team Wistaston Academy we believe active learning is something that should include everyone!

Healthy Eating Week: Baking Bread, by Ms Ferns

Date: 21st Oct 2021 @ 5:23pm

t's Healthy Eating week so the Reception children joined the rest of the school to complete a ‘Bake Off’. We chose to bake our own bread and had to follow a recipe to show us what ingredients we would need and the measurements required to make the perfect bread.
The children took it in turns to add the ingredients; a cup of flour, two tea spoons of salt, a cup of water and two table spoons of yeast. We discussed how the yeast would make the bread 'raise' and the children used a hand action to demonstrate this. The children took turns to stir the mixture until it was a nice consistent dough. After that, we shared out the dough so that each child could knead their own piece of bread. We discussed how to knead and how it's an important process of making bread. The children decided which shaped bread they were going to make for example; a hedgehog, a turtle or a ladybird. We used raisins for the eyes of our animal and some children chose to snip the bread with scissors to create spikes like a hedgehog.
Overall it was an enjoyable experience and they particularly liked tasting their bread once it was baked.
