Supporting Learning

Special Educational Needs and Inclusion

My name is Stephanie Tew. I have been teaching since 2005 and at Wistaston Academy since January of this year. I am now the school’s Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo ) and I am responsible for co-ordinating the day-to-day provision of education for pupils with special educational needs at the school and to implement the school’s SEND policy. Special Educational Needs is a legal term describing the needs of a child who has a difficulty or disability which makes learning harder for them than other children their age.

Wistaston Academy always works closely with parents and, when needed, other outside agencies to support our children and ensure their needs are met. If you have any queries or concerns about your child’s progress or special educational needs I am happy to speak with you; the door is always open!

At Wistaston Academy there is a wide range of strategies and resources that the staff can use to include children with special educational needs. These include provision for pupils with emotional, social and behavioural needs as well as academic. Nurturing is embedded throughout the school curriculum and where required, some pupils with high levels of need may follow a more personalised curriculum based on individual need.  We will work with you, the class teacher and your child to ensure their needs are met. Sometimes we will approach outside agencies for further support.
