Year 6 B - Mr Burke 2017 - 2018

Mr Burke

Mr Burke

Mrs Cutts

My name is Mr Burke. Additional teachers in Year 6 include Mrs Cutts, Mrs Joy and Miss Aldridge. Learning is supported by Mrs Jones.

Spring 1

Welcome back after the Christmas break. The spring term is an important one for preparing the children for the SATs. Nevertheless, we will remember to make our learning fun and memorable.

Maths

Children will be taught by either Mr Burke, Miss Aldridge or Mrs Cutts/Mrs Joy. Arithmetic (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication using whole numbers, decimals, fractions and percentages) will continue to be a key focus throughout all lessons.

English

Children will continue to write a variety of genres. Accurate punctuation and use of a wide variety of writing techniques remains a focus.

Science

During the first part of the spring term, we will be learning about evolution and inheritance. We will be looking at Charles Darwin's theory of evolution and his study on finches, and how certain features are inherited whilst other features derive from environmental factors.

PE

Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. It is vital that children always have their PE kits in school. PE is part of the national curriculum and only a medical note and/or a parental note can excuse a child from being active in the lesson.

Homework

Homework will be sent out every Friday, which will be in the form of an ongoing booklet which will help to prepare children for the Year 6 SATs. The children will already have looked at this in class. This should be completed over the weekend and returned to school by the following Tuesday morning. In addition, children will have a home/school spelling book which allows them the opportunity to practise spellings at home that they have got incorrect in school.

SATs

This is a very important year for your children with the SATs tests occurring in May 2018. Please ensure your child attends school. Booster clubs will begin after Christmas and more details on the SATs process will be communicated to you in due course.

Attendance

Excellent attendance is vital for achieving your child’s potential. Please ensure your child is in school promptly at 8.40am.

Many thanks for your continuing support.
