Year 6 A - Miss Boobyer 2019 - 2020

Hi Year 6!

I hope that you and your families are well and that you are staying safe during this time.

Alongside your home learning packs, Mr Burke and I have been setting you 2Dos on Purple Mash. Please make sure to keep checking it regularly if you have access to the Internet. Don't forget that you can email me via Purple Mash. I have sent you all an email already so you should be able to find it in your alerts. If it has not come through in your alerts, search '2Email' and there should be a message in your inbox.

If you are looking for websites to use for home learning, use the 'Educational Websites' tab. In your home learning packs you have your usernames and passwords for: IXL, Purple Mash, TT Rockstars, Numbots, Charanga and Spelling/Maths Shed.

For some lessons on ratio, use the following link:

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-6/

You can watch the videos, complete the worksheet activities and then check the answers.

Make sure that you are reading regularly. Use the myON.co.uk website to access a range of books that can be read online (use your AR login to sign into your account.)

You can also now quiz on AR at home! This is the link you will need to use:

https://ukhosted63.renlearn.co.uk/3562743/default.aspx

If you don't use that exact link, it will not work!

Keep working your way through your home learning packs. If you haven't yet picked yours up from the office, please arrange to do so.

Most importantly, please look after yourselves and your families. I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Miss Boobyer

-----------

Our names are Miss Boobyer and Mr Burke. Learning in Year 6 is supported by Mrs Jones, Mrs Lovatt and Mrs Joy.

During this term, we will be looking at a range of topics in our class.

In Maths, we are looking at place value and the four operations.

During Literacy, we will be writing a recount of our trip to Gradbach. Later in the term, we will be writing a setting description based on our class book: ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’. In our Guided Reading sessions, we are looking at a range of both fiction and non-fiction texts.

In the afternoons, we will look at a wide variety of topics. In Science we are looking at living things and how they are classified, in Geography we are learning about where things come from and in History we will be finding out about World War II.

SATs

This is a very important year for your children with the SATs tests occurring in May 2020.  Please ensure your child attends school.  Booster clubs will begin after Christmas and more details on the SATs process will be communicated to you in due course.

Art

Children receive weekly Art sessions led by Mrs Walsh in the dedicated art room.

PE

Our PE days are Tuesdays (with Jamie) and Thursdays (with Mrs Adamczyk).  Please make sure that your child has a named kit, which includes black pumps or trainers, black shorts and either a green or white t-shirt. Long hair needs to be tied back.

All earrings need to be removed before school or the lesson for PE sessions. Where ears have recently been pierced, it is essential that children have their own plasters from home to cover their earrings. This needs to be done either at home or by the child themselves. This is in line with the school policy.

Attendance

Excellent attendance is vital for helping your child to achieve their full potential. Please ensure your child is in school promptly at 8.40.

School finishes at 3.15 and children continue to be collected from classrooms at this time.

Home learning

Spellings will be given out every Monday to be practiced at home for a spelling test on Friday.  Parents are encouraged to read with their children every day to support progress and to help nurture a love for reading. Children will be given a reading planner which should be signed every night and sent to school with them and their reading book every day.

We will send out any additional worksheets from class as and when it’s needed. In addition, we encourage all children to complete maths based activities (that we will set for them) on their iPads/laptops/computers or phones. All children have a ‘TTRockstars’ account and are encouraged to regularly practise their times tables in order to increase their fluency.
