Year 5 B - Miss Blakeman 2019 - 2020

Miss Blakeman

Welcome to Year 5!

Autumn Term

My name is Mrs Taylor and I’m the class teacher for 5B.

I hope you've had a fantastic summer and that you are excited for the year ahead. During the Autumn Term, we will be focusing on a range of aspects within our curriculum.

In Maths we are focusing on place value. We are looking at the values of each digit in numbers to one million through comparing, ordering and rounding numbers. We will then use this understanding to help us with our addition and subtraction of 4-6 digit numbers.

In Literacy we are reading Beyond the Deepwoods by Chris Riddell. We are starting the term by looking at a detailed picture book called ‘The eleventh hour’.

This half term we will be focusing on how our country has changed. The children will find out about the regions of the United Kingdom and discover how some of these areas have changed over time.

Our topic in science is Earth and Space.

The Music lessons will be taught by Music for Life which will enable the children to develop or foster a love for music in its many forms.

Our PE days are Mondays and Wednesdays. Please make sure that your child has a named kit, which includes: black pumps or trainers, black shorts (or trousers in winter) and either a green or white t-shirt. Long hair needs to be tied back.

All earrings need to be removed before school or the lesson for PE sessions. Where ears have recently been pierced, it is essential that children have their own plasters from home to cover their earrings. This needs to be done either at home or by the child themselves. This is in line with school policy.

Excellent attendance is vital for achieving your child’s potential. Please ensure your child is in school promptly at 8.40.

School finishes at 3.15 and children continue to be collected from classrooms at this time. We ask parents/carers to accompany late children to the office, where a reason for lateness and the number of minutes late will be recorded on to their child’s attendance file.

Home Learning

Spellings will be given out every Monday to be practiced at home for a spelling test on Friday.  Parents are encouraged to read with their children at least three times a week. This is vital in order to increase your child's confidence and to nurture a love of reading.
