Year 5 A - Miss Aldridge 2020 - 2021

Welcome to Year 5

Our names are Miss Aldridge and Mrs Taylor. Learning in Year 5 is supported by Mrs Oldham and Mrs Carswell.

During the Autumn term, we will be looking at a range of topics in our class.
In Maths, we are looking at place value and the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

During Literacy, we are basing our writing on our class book Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to freedom. We will use this as inspiration to write an information text about influential people. It will also be the basis of our reading lessons.

In the afternoons, we will look at a wide variety of topics, such as Materials in Science, our ever-changing nation in Geography and the Anglo-Saxons in History.

Art

Children receive weekly Art sessions led by Mrs Walsh.

PE

Our PE days are Mondays and Thursdays.  Please make sure that your child has a named kit, which includes black pumps or trainers, black shorts and either a green or white t-shirt. Long hair needs to be tied back.

All earrings need to be removed before school or the lesson for PE sessions. Where ears have recently been pierced, it is essential that children have their own plasters from home to cover their earrings. This needs to be done either at home or by the child themselves. This is in line with the school policy.

Attendance

Excellent attendance is vital for helping your child to achieve their full potential. Please ensure your child is in school promptly at 8.50.
School finishes at 3.25 and children continue to be collected from classrooms at this time.

Home learning

Spellings will be given out every Monday to be practiced at home for a spelling test on Friday.  Parents are encouraged to read with their children every day to support progress in reading and to help nurture a love for reading. Your child can access MyOn to read and quiz on a range of books.

There will be weekly TT Rockstar battles against the other year 5 class, please ensure your child takes part as timetables are a vital part of your child’s education. There is also EdShed where children can practise their times tables and spelling.
