Year 2 A - Miss Bailey 2019 - 2020

Mrs Adamczyk

Year 2 will be taught by Miss Bailey, class teacher of 2A, and Mrs Lowry, class teacher of 2B. Learning in Year 2 is supported by Mrs Cooper and Mrs Whalley.

In Year 2 we teach the national curriculum through topic sessions: science, computing, history, geography and music are taught during these times. We have lots of exciting topics this year, such as: The Seaside, The Great Fire of London and China.

In addition to topic lessons, children receive PSHE, art, PE and RE during separate sessions. Throughout the year we will explore three Design and Technology projects.

Children receive weekly Art session led by Mrs Walsh in the dedicated art room.

Our PE days are Tuesdays and Fridays. Tuesday PE sessions are taught by Mrs Adamczyk. Please make sure that your child has a named kit, which includes black pumps or trainers, black shorts and either a green or white t-shirt. Long hair needs to be tied back.

All earrings need to be removed before school on the day of PE. Where ears have recently been pierced, your child’s earrings will need to be covered with tape. This needs to be done either at home or by the child themselves. This is in line with the school policy.

Excellent attendance is vital for achieving your child’s potential. Please ensure your child is in school promptly at 8.40.

School finishes at 3.05 and children continue to be collected from classrooms at this time.

What to bring to school

Please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school every day, with their name clearly labelled. Your child should have a book bag, which should also be brought in every day in case they have things to take home.

Please make sure your child’s coat, book bag and jumper or cardigan is clearly labelled with their name and class.

Read Write Inc

If your child attends RWI sessions in school, they will bring home two RWI books each Friday to share with you. Please support them by listening to them read and asking questions about what they have read. They might also enjoy teaching you the sounds and words at the front of the story books. These books need to be returned to school each Thursday.

There will be a charge of £2 for lost or damaged books.

Spellings and Reading Books

If your child is in Miss Bailey’s literacy group, they will receive weekly spellings on a Monday. These are to be practised at home during the week, ready for a test on Friday.

Your child will also be completing half-termly reading quizzes on Accelerated Reader, which will give them a book level. Your child will then bring a book home to read with you. Please listen to your child read and ask them questions about what they have read. Once they have finished their book, they can complete a short quiz each week. These are the days when they will then be able to change their book.

Irlam Library

The Irlam library has a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books for you and your child to explore, read and talk about.
