Year 1 A - Miss Bailey 2017 - 2018

Miss Bailey

Welcome to Year 1

Miss Bailey and Mrs Moloney are the Year 1 class teachers. The Year 1 team also includes teaching assistants Mrs Whalley, Mrs Evanson and Miss Roberts. Mrs Adamczyk is the Year 1 PE teacher and Mrs Walsh is the music teacher. Mrs Bailey is the Key Stage 1 Assistant Principal.

Our morning sessions consist of Maths, Read, Write Inc. and handwriting practice. In the afternoon, we teach the national curriculum foundation subjects through topic lessons. This includes history, geography, art and science. In addition, children receive PSHE, RE, and Music sessions during afternoon learning times. Throughout the year children also explore three Design and Technology projects.

What does your child need to bring to school every day?

Please ensure that your child has a named water bottle in school every day so that they can access a drink throughout the school day.

Your child will also need to bring their book bag every day. This will allow them to carry their Read, Write Inc. book and a library book to and from school. Children will visit the library with their class every Monday. The library is also open to parents and children every day after school except for Wednesdays. Please try to come in and choose a book with your child.

Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. The school does not have a supply of spare clothes for children so it is essential that they are appropriately dressed e.g. a waterproof coat with a hood for wet weather.

Our PE days are Mondays and Thursdays. Please make sure that your child has a named kit, which includes black pumps or trainers, black shorts and either a green or white t-shirt. Long hair needs to be tied back.

All earrings need to be removed before school on PE days. Where ears have recently been pierced, it is essential that children have their own plasters from home to cover their earrings. This needs to be done either at home or by the child themselves. This is in line with the school policy.

Excellent attendance is vital for your child to achieve their utmost potential. The classroom door opens at 8:40am for morning registration. There will always be a member of the Year 1 team waiting at the classroom door to welcome your child. If you have a message for your child's class teacher, unless it is urgent, please try to arrange to speak to her at the end of the school day as mornings are a busy time inside the classroom.

It is important that children arrive on time for school every day. This helps them to settle into the school day quickly and calmly. This has a positive impact on their ability to engage in their learning.

School finishes at 3.05 and children need to be collected from classrooms at this time.

Read Write Inc

Your child will bring home a RWI book each Friday to share with you at home. Please support them by listening to them read and asking simple questions about what they have read. They might also enjoy teaching you the sounds and words at the front of the story books. Please encourage your child to read this book regularly so that they become confident with the text. These books need to be returned to school each Thursday.

There will be a charge of £2 for lost or damaged books.

Finally, all Year 1 pupils are required to take a Phonics Screening Check in June. This is a national check so it is important your child is present during the week beginning Monday 11th June. Please avoid booking any appointments during this week.
